BeoSound 8 Product Review

The BeoSound 8 is the top of the line speaker system for the digital music enthusiast. Apple product lovers should especially take note.

So how do you know if this is the right speaker for you? Let’s break it down. You’re that person – you take your iPhone, iPad, or iPod everywhere. You have access to a vast digital music collection that would put a radio station or nightclub DJ to shame. The quality of the sound is important to you, and you’re willing to invest to make it happen. Music is your passion, and you are looking for a precise audio experience that’s customizable and delivers every time. But the aesthetics are also important, as you’ve carefully crafted your sound set up for a very precise look and feel. Bang and Olufson’s latest product may be exactly what you’re looking for.

As with every B & O product, the construction is rock solid, the design is elegant, and you can add this piece to your music set up knowing that it will add a little flare. The units are available in black or white for more customized color pallettes. The BeoSound body is compact and light, which gives it a flexible and easy placement on the wall, in a corner, or on the floor. With a modern, minimalist design the look of this dock has broad appeal. It also breaks out of the staid mold of a receiver and two speakers design, which plagues even the highest level of digital docks.

Exceptional sound quality is the key differentiator of this product. Whether you’re comparing the sound quality to a Geneva Labs product, a Zeppelin, a Bose, or even a Meridian, you’ll find this dock stands up to and far surpasses its competitors. Frequently the biggest complaint about the all in one docks is sound quality, but the design, engineering, and high quality sourced parts ensure that’s not the case here. It plays well at lower levels, but can achieve an impressive volume when needed and still maintain sound integrity.

The engineering that goes into this product is worth exploring further. The Beosound’s unique custom made canonical speakers are backed up by four high-performance digital amplifiers. A room adaptation switch allows you to manually control for optimum bass performance. The quality of the individual parts is very high, and if you inspect any of the individual pieces you’ll find a good design with high-end durable materials.

One of the features that’s worth noting is the simple user interface; compared to other models in this category, the BeoSound is incredibly easy to manage and it will integrate across your music set up. The interface has five primary commands: volume up, volume down, previous track, next track, and on/off. The simple interface makes this especially appropriate if you’re going to be sharing the system with others in your household that may not be as device savvy.

Another important factor is the ability to use this dock with a variety of Apple devices, as well as any computer with a USB port or an RCA connection. You can actually use the system to play music from your iPod, iPad, iPhone, your PC, or your MAC. The flexibility allows this to be your main music system, or to use if for sound during parties, outdoor BBQs, and more remote areas of your house or property. You also have to factor in the savings of not having to purchase of multiple systems for digital playback since it integrates with all the different music storage systems. If you choose to listen on your computer, both connections allow you to make full use of EQ settings.

In terms of the specifics of sound quality, your middles will sound as good as on a custom stereo system. The highs are exceptionally clear and the system is able to hold the lows and treble at an amazing level for the size. It also kicks at a level way above its weight, given the small size of the actual unit. Particularly when you are listening to music with a lot of depth, the richness and tones are really brought out through the Beosound 8. It truly plays all the sounds from bass to treble accurately.

This is not a cheap product, coming in at just under a thousand dollars. But your investment is backed up by a three year full warranty, which should cover any issues until it’s time to upgrade your technology with the latest B&O masterpiece.

So what are the downsides? Besides potentially the cost if you are budget conscious, the Beosound can produce a slight pop sound if your Apple OS hasn’t been fully updated. Should your unit create this sound when interacting with your devices, it’s a simple fix that can be addressed by making sure all your software is up to date.

The Beosound 8is probably not the right choice for a casual listener. But if you love Apple products, want flexibility and integration in your sound system, and demand the best in terms of design and sound quality you absolutely need to check out this sound dock.

Small Wireless Speaker Jambox By Jawbone Review – Pure Magic

The Jambox by Jawbone small wireless speaker is magic – pure magic. That’s my take on the Jawbone JAMBOX  Bluetooth Speaker. I absolutely love this product.

Let me break it down. The Jawbone JAMBOX is a Bluetooth enabled speaker that connects via Bluetooth technology to your iPhone, IPad, certain models of iPod, computers, tablets, and non-Apple mobile phones. It will connect with any device that is Bluetooth enabled. This is not a strictly Apple product, unlike some of its competitors. This is a huge advantage when you’re looking for one product that will be part of your integrated tech system.

The audio quality on this small wireless speaker is just unbelievable for its size. With a range of 85 decibels, this speaker fills a 20 x 20 room with no problem. The stellar performance is due in part to its engineering, which features a unique design with two acoustic drivers that allow it to project both high and low frequencies. It has great kick for something of its size as well; with a passive base radiator, you can crank up the sound and feel every beat. It’s ability to play clear, rich sounds at lower frequencies really stands out.

The JAMBOX is completely portable. I put this speaker in rooms of my house that don’t have access to my in wall system. I take it with me when I’m working outside to blast music. It provides the soundtrack to my BBQs and camping trips. We’ve used it to tailgate. I even throw it in my bag when I go on vacation so that I have quality sound in my hotel rooms. It’s that small and light (coming in at about 6 x 2.2 x 1.2 inches, and less than two pounds). I’ve even used this small wireless speaker in my car as an input for my iPod when I was having trouble with my car sound system and it worked great.

The Jambox by Jawbone small wireless speaker is a product that’s made to last. The speaker is crafted of industrial strength steel. The rubber casings are hard molded. I’ve tested this speaker out in a variety of settings, and it stands up well to wear and tear. When I was reading reviews online, most of the users commented that this a hearty unit for the size and they were totally right. I’d feel safe having this unit in a house with kids or big parties where it might get knocked around a bit.

Do you need a portable speakerphone with rocking sound? In addition to all of its functions as a wireless speaker, the JAMBOX doubles as a wireless speakerphone. The sound quality is just as exceptional as on the music play, and in my tests didn’t suffer from spotty sound or pops the way similar products I’ve tried. This is a no fuss, high functioning speakerphone option. The unit offers voice dialing and even has customized voice feedback.

A feature of note is the JAMBOX’s speakers has exceptionally long battery life. The internal rechargeable battery holds its own for up to ten hours of continuous use. The battery is non-standard but comes with the product, is rechargeable via the included mini-USB cable, and can be ordered through most electronics sites or the Jawbone retail site.

One thing the JAMBOX speaker has is that it’s high on style. The speaker comes in cherry red, blue, gray and black to fit into a variety of decors. It is so small that it can be subtle and blend into the background, or be a statement piece depending on where you put it. The red is especially eye catching. Even the packaging looks great, very high end, so if you’re giving this as a gift it’ll be well received in the box.

The interface is exceptionally easy to use. Whether you’re streaming music straight from iTunes or Pandora, downloading apps, or projecting a call through the speaker it’s really intuitive. This is a product you could give your parents or a non-techie spouse and be comfortable knowing they can figure it out with ease.

A few cautions about the product. The first is that if there is a weak Bluetooth connection, the sound can drop. The second is that if there is a problem with the unit, some reports are that the customer service is slow and leaves a bit to be desired. I haven’t experienced that myself, but it seems worth sharing in case that’s a deal breaker for you. The other weird note is that because it kicks so much, if it’s on max volume it can move around the surface a little so be careful not to put it on the edge.

Overall, this is a product that I highly recommend. The JAMBOX  by Jawbone speaker blends sound quality, sturdy construction, a great interface, and the ability to link up with all my devices at a price that’s a good value for the features. Combined with the easy portability, this makes the speaker a great choice for people who travel or are looking for a versatile small wireless speaker that works in a range of different settings.
